A propsed coal mine for the area has us very concerned about the Salt Fork River. There has been talk of removing water from the Salt Fork to wash coal. Then return water, which has washed coal, to the river. Stand Up to Coal has more information about the propsed coal mine. Please inform yourself and join us in whatever way you can to oppose the proposed Bulldog Mine.
Salt Fork Friends is a loose collection of people interested in sharing information, experience, and opportunities for the enjoyment of the Salt Fork River in east-central Illinois (Champaign and Vermilion Counties), and its watershed, wildlife habitats, and recreation areas.
Check out the annotated map of the Salt Fork River, showing popular access points as well as natural, historic, and civic points of interest. Contribute your ideas and additional sites by adding comments to the map post, and we'll add them to the map.
